Shane as a Cartoon
I am a geek to the core, been playing with computers since I was 15 years old and have never been away from them for very long. Sure, there were jobs that did not require computers, like lawn mowing and Christmas tree farming, but I always seem to come back to computers for work. It is hard to believe that I started with a Commodore 64 that my dad bought me for Christmas in 1984.
Back then I did not play with girls, had nothing to do with them in fact. If you knew me back then you would have probably thought I would grow up alone, becoming a crotchety old man that nobody liked. HA! Fooled you! Not only am I married to a wonderful woman, I have a beautiful daughter that I am sure you will all just love.
I left my permanent job with TravelNet Solutions in August, 2008 and although I am finding work online, it is not really what I want to do. I am currently working with a friend to set up some residual income, but that has become a slow, tedious process. I want to do something other than computers now (yes, I said that) but after over 20 years doing this I really have no other discernible skills. So what is a person to do?
Eventually I will move on to do something more interesting, as believe it or not, computers have become very boring for me. Yes, you heard me. I once played games for hours on end – now I rarely, if ever, play a game. So I need to find a way to make enough money to pay the bills, buy some trains and have a little left over for fun stuff with the family. Got any suggestions? Oh yeah, and I do not want to work 8 hours a day.
In April, 2009 I started school online with the University of Phoenix to earn a degree in Elementary Education. Yep, going to be a teacher and shape young minds. Yeah, I know, not a lot of money in that, and yes, I have to work 8 hours a day or more so maybe it is not the perfect job. However, I love to teach and work with kids, so even though it will not be my perfect job, it will be something I enjoy, and that is just as important as money.
